I’ve always said that one cannot be a true, born-again Christian, and vote for a Democrat – and I still believe that. It’s just that I’ve been looking at various news reports, and becoming ill at the notion of all of the corrupt people in this nation – of every political stripe, that I needed to revise this statement a bit.
Why did I originally say that a true, born-again Christian cannot vote for a Democrat? Because of what the Democrat party stands for – pure and simple. One cannot be a true, born-again Christian, and support:
- Abortion – at any time, for any reason.
- Same-sex marriage – God forbids it.
- Transgenderism – God finds it abhorrent (Deuteronomy 22:5)
And any number of other things that are “planks in their platform”.
If we have a Democrat in power, we pray for them to make wise decisions, and to run this nation properly.
But sin doesn’t align itself with a political party – there’s enough of it to go around.
I think of something I shared on Facebook a year ago, from A. W. Tozer, and I’d like to share that here, because it’s appropriate:
“Sin is a disease. It is lawlessness. It is rebellion. It is transgression—but it is also a wasting of the most precious of all treasures on earth. The man who dies out of Christ is said to be lost, and hardly a word in the English tongue expresses his condition with greater accuracy. He has squandered a rare fortune and at the last he stands for a fleeting moment and looks around, a moral fool, a wastrel who has lost in one overwhelming and irrecoverable loss, his soul, his life, his peace, his total mysterious personality, his dear and everlasting all!
“Oh, how can we get men and women around us to realize that God Almighty, before the beginning of the world, loved them, and thought about them, planning redemption and salvation and forgiveness?
“Christian brethren, why are we not more faithful and serious in proclaiming God’s great eternal concerns?
“How is this world all around us ever to learn that God is all in all unless we are faithful in our witness?
“In a time when everything in the world seems to be vanity, God is depending on us to proclaim that He is the great Reality, and that only He can give meaning to all other realities.”
Yes, a lot of the sin we see today, can be laid at the feet of members of the Democrat party, but we can lay quite a bit of blame at the feet of members of the Republican party, and those who align themselves as “Independent” as well.
God says that we are to be good stewards of the blessings He bestows on us. This nation has been one of the most blessed in the world – yet we’ve dug a twenty-two trillion dollar hole in our checking account! This is a deficit that our kids, grandkids and great grandkids will be digging out of. And it was brought about by the reckless spending of Republicans and Democrats alike.
Luke 16 is probably one of the best examples of how Jesus dealt with corruption – the parable of the unjust steward. Verses 1-7:
He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions. And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’ And the manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive me into their houses.’ So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures (about 875 gallons or about 3,200 liters) of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures (between 1,000 and 1,200 bushels) of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’
What was going on here? A manager of the rich man’s assets and accounts was squandering the rich man’s money. The rich man – his employer – found out about it and demanded that an accounting be made – and fired the manager.
The manager, in his final days on the job, instead of outright stealing assets, lowered the bills of those owing money by significant amounts – with the hopes that when he became unemployed, that these people would have mercy on him. In other words, I’ll scratch your back – you scratch mine. It was dishonest and corrupt.
Jesus then pivots to the moral of the parable – verses 10-13:
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
The person who can be trusted with a little, can be trusted with more – but the one who is dishonest with a little, will take what he can.
Isn’t this true in our federal – and many of our state governments today – and over the last several decades?
Our federal government has spent their way to oblivion and back – and cheated the American people out of a lot of their hard-earned money. The congress of the United States – both republican and democrat – has taken monies from the Social Security Trust Fund – money taken through levies on our paychecks, and used this money to plug holes in their deficit spending. This was money to be used for retirement, and if it was invested wisely, would more than cover retirees and disabled people for years to come… but no… they had to rob Peter (us, the taxpayer) to pay Paul (their bills). That’s sinful!
There are states who do not have an income tax, or sales tax, or both – and are better managed than those who levy exorbitant taxes on their residents. It’s no wonder that people are fleeing New York, New Jersey and California – for Florida and Texas. That’s wonderful, as long as they leave their liberal ways behind.
Congresspeople and Senators are more moved by lobbyists and their constituents. Ever ask yourself how members of congress are richer when they leave office (if they ever do, but that’s another subject) – than when they entered? Lobbyists are one answer.
I think that the only politician that is in office today, that has had a decrease in their net worth, is the president. He’s not taken a paycheck – donating it to various government department budgets.
Can they (federal and state governments) be trusted with the tax money taken from us each year? According to this parable – no.
There are democrats (albeit not many) who believe that abortion is wrong – but they believe that men can carry on with men, and women with women. God says no!
But preacher, “love is love – God tells us to love everyone” – that doesn’t include “intimate love”. That’s reserved for marriage between a man and a woman.
There are republicans that believe the same way – it’s wrong.
As I stated earlier – this nation has been blessed beyond measure, because of the way God was at the very center of it. The nation was created under Judeo-Christian principles. The Magna Carta is the inspiration for our Declaration of Independence and Constitution – all of which are based on Judeo-Christian principles.
Until the 1960’s – it seems that God was at the center of every town square. One wasn’t ridiculed, or worse, for being a Christian. But today, you have godless leaders at the state level who will think nothing of shutting down a church for a virus that’s no worse than a bad cold, if treated early, with the right medication – Hydroxychloroquine, Zithromycin and Zinc. The writer of Hebrews put it plainly:
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
We are to gather together, and worship the Lord our God, and sing praises to His name. But as it’s stated in the prophetic of the Bible – the last days will be filled with godlessness. Men who profess to be godly, like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, are no more than Republicans in name only – they use the title when it suits them, but it really means nothing to them. Being a Republican used to mean godly – republicans stood for godly principles. They were against slavery, for equal rights for minorities, they were for law and order and sound fiscal management (a/k/a: good stewardship).
What happened to them? Many succumbed to Satan, evil, and sin. They were more interested in “what was in it for them” – then what was best for their constituents – the citizens of this nation.
It’s no wonder that God seems to have taken his hand off this nation! What ever happened to living in the FEAR OF THE LORD? There’s no fear anymore – and where’s there’s no fear – respect and awe – of God, He takes His hand of favor away.
I put the blame squarely at the feet of the American Church. With few exceptions, it’s dead or on life support. Pastors and Elders are more concerned with tax exemption – the ability for parishioners to deduct offerings from income taxes – and tax exemption from other taxes for the church (this improving financial footing) – and losing the ability to call out politicians for their corruption from the pulpit. Senator Johnson (yes, the former president was a senator in the 1950’s) came up with the Johnson Amendment – to squelch political speech by non-profits in return for favorable tax treatment. This insulated political figures from being held accountable by the church – as the church did before the 1950’s.
It’s time for fire and brimstone to rain down from the pulpits, and if the pastors can’t call out the sin going on in this nation and government, then step aside and get someone who can.
Christians – you’re in the army now. The warfare is real. Gird your armor – stand and fight for your faith. For one day, if you don’t – you’ll find your first amendment right to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom to assemble at church – taken from you, right from under your nose.
“It’s no wonder that God seems to have taken his hand off this nation!” I’ve written it before, and I’ll write it again: I think it’s very clear that this nation is living under God’s judgment. In this case, it seems to mean that He is basically letting us Americans go our own way, or as you put it, He has taken His hand off this nation.
