Ask any political liberal, and after the Uvalde school shooting, we have a huge gun problem.
Ask any political liberal about the murder of the unborn, and you’ll hear the mantra, “my body, my choice”.
I guess it’s ok to kill children with forceps and vacuum, but not with a gun – and that every gun must be taken off the streets, but the tools of abortion are ok.
This, of course makes no sense.
Let’s look at it another way.
In Genesis chapter 4, we see how Cain killed Abel, the King James and the New King James, as well as most other translations in verse 8, use the term “rose up against” meaning that the act us unprovoked and a surprise to Abel.
In the same verse, the Hebrew וַיַּהַרְגֵֽהוּ translated as “he killed him” meaning that Cain killed Abel – we don’t specifically what Cain used, but it’s generally accepted that given the time period, it was a rock. If it was, did God remove all rocks from the face of the earth?
Whatever it was that Cain used – all of that something wasn’t removed.
God instead punished Cain for his sin – something we find too little of today.
Go back fifty years, we had guns – in fact, gun safety and how to use them, and respect them were taught in schools! There were no shootings in schools, churches, shopping malls or public places.
But now, the liberal politicians want to remove all guns? That, my friend, is the epitome of chutzpah!
I wrote a sermon on what God might think of firearms (https://mashiach.blog/2017/11/06/what-does-god-say-about-firearms-and-self-defense/).
This was in response to a church shooting in 2017, and I was making a case for arming churches, that every church should – no, must – have a trained and armed security team – including the pastor, the protector of the flock.
Although the scene is different, schools too, need to be hardened. Our children are precious and must be protected at all costs.
How come we can leave eighty billion dollars of high tech weaponry in enemy hands, but not harden our schools?
Why is it that our Congress can allocate trillions of dollars to protect other countries, but not one dollar to protect our children at schools?
Better yet, how is that this same Congress can allocate millions to Planned Parenthood – the largest murderer of our children, but nothing to protect our most vulnerable in the classroom.
This is ironic chutzpah!
It came out this past week that the archbishop of San Francisco was denying holy communion to Nancy Pelosi, the current Speaker of the House of Representatives because of her favorable view on abortion. She’s fighting this, of course, but she’ll lose.
This church, is called church discipline, and as most of you know, I’m no fan of the Roman Catholic Church, church discipline in this form is quite appropriate.
Getting back to firearms, we lived in a different time fifty to seventy five years ago. But today, doctors are quick with a script pad, ready to put Ritalin or Adderall or the drug of the day into our newly diagnosed ADD or ADHD or Asperger’s kid, not knowing the long term effects of these mind altering drugs might have.
Today, we have teenagers and young adults who’ve been hopped up on these meds for most of their lives.
Instead of properly disciplining these kids, they have been putting them in “time out” or other some namby pamby punishment.
The Bible put it plainly in Proverbs 13:24
He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
How do you teach a child not to act out, you discipline that child. My mother always told teachers and others: “He has the Fear of God and the fear of his mother…” Need I say more – and yes, she kicked tail when necessary.
And there was no Child Protective Services. Today, kids are taught about CPS. My kid tried to threaten me once with having his teacher call CPS. My answer? Go ahead, and after I get done paddling your butt, I’ll throw them out on theirs!
Unfortunately, being a pastor puts me in the position of being a “mandatory reporter” – hey, if I see real abuse, I’ll report it, but discipline?
Church discipline works in a similar way. It can be summarized in Titus 3:10-11: As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.(ESV)
Someone once asked when a pastor had the right to put someone out of fellowship. This verse from Paul to Titus says it all.
I’ve done it again, went down a rabbit hole…
Anyway, kids today who commit these horrific shootings may have had mental problems, and the signs were all there, as they were with the Uvalde shooter, and no one caught it.
Other questions remain as well.
We don’t see law abiding gun owners out there shooting up schools and churches.
The Texas church shooting was stopped with a good guy with a gun, taking out the bad guy with a gun.
As long as we’re drugging up our kids, we’re going to have problems.
As long as parents fear the government in disciplining their children, we’re going to have problems.
As long as we’re permitting sin over the Gospel and morality in our kids lives, we’re going have problems.
The answer is prayer. Pray that godly leaders be restored to our nation and to rid ourselves of this progressive and ungodly policies that have driven this nation into the moral ground.
