I’m sitting here, literally drained. Satan has been attacking at my most vulnerable area – my health. My latest mishap is a fall out back on nice soft grass, that resulted in a broken rib.
Ever since I’ve taken up armor for the Lord, stuff has happened, but Satan’s really ratcheted it up in a big way, in the last year or so.
People who don’t know their Bible, have been saying, “don’t worry, God won’t give you more than you can handle.” These people have a habit of misquoting scripture, or taking it completely out of context. The verse they’re referencing is 1 Corinthians 10:13, which Paul writes:
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
This doesn’t mean “God won’t give you more than you can handle” in a general way, as most seem to believe. It says that God will not allow one to be tempted to sin more than they are able – however, God may allow Satan to throw the kitchen sink at you, to test your faith to endure.
Look at Job – God permitted Satan to take everything he had – everything… his wealth, his children, his livestock. He had only his wife by his side (Job, chapter 1). On top of that, Satan was permitted to take Job’s health (chapter 2) – which was too much for the missus who turned around and told Job to curse God and die.
Of course, Job told his wife to keep quiet and to stop the foolish talk. He didn’t curse God – he did kvetch a bit, and the “friends” he had left tried to convince him that God was punishing him for some sin he committed. Toward the end of the book, God put a stop to that, and the kvetching. All in all though, Job passed the test of faith that was thrown his way.
In the last year, I’ve been speaking out against the pervasive sin in our society and corruption in our government. Like the prophet Isaiah, I’ve been preaching that we need wholesale, corporate, national repentance, and without that, we can pray 2 Chronicles 7:14 until we’re blue in the face – God will not bless, and will turn His back on the nations that have turned their backs on Him.
The United States has turned its back on God, thrown Jesus out of town square, and our society’s so far down the Romans 1 sewer – and we expect God to bless this rebellious and stiff necked people? Are you kidding me?
I’m sitting here in a boatload of pain from that broken rib. I know darned well that Satan was using that to keep me from putting this together and publishing it. Well, I told Satan to “pound sand!” Our Lord Jesus Christ suffered much more pain on the cross than I’m enduring, so I’m getting this out and Satan can get a case of indigestion over the fact that I’m defying him.
Look at 1 Corinthians 10:13 again. To not do my job would go against what God wanted me to do – and boy, was I tempted to just say “the heck with it.” God, however, gave the way of escape – the power to overcome the pain and the pity-party I was giving myself – so as to not sin – and to tell Satan to get back to the pit of Hell, and to leave me and my family alone!
Oh yes, he’ll be permitted to attack again, but we’ve got God on our side. Romans 8:31 states that if God’s for us, who can be against us. Paul’s right – with complete faith in Christ, we can be victorious over anything Satan throws at us – including that kitchen sink.
